INVESTING IN PEOPLE AND SRI LANKA FOR WILDLIFE CONSERVATION

On this #worldwildlifeday, we highlight the urgent need for conservation efforts, particularly in mitigating human-elephant conflict (HEC) in Sri Lanka. HEC remains one of the most pressing conservation challenges, alongside habitat loss, fragmentation, over-exploitation, and climate change. Sri Lanka has the highest annual elephant deaths and the second-highest human fatalities due to this ongoing conflict. The country’s endemic Asian Elephant population continues to face severe habitat loss, further intensifying the issue.

Our primary focus will be to continue supporting the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society (WNPS) with its Light Repel System (LRS) initiative. Now in its third year, the LRS has been installed at over 24 key HEC hotspots across Sri Lanka, providing protection through more than 1,100 strategically placed lights covering over 35 kilometers. Currently, around 45 families benefit from this initiative, as the project remains in a pilot phase to gather scientific evidence before scaling up.

By investing in sustainable wildlife conservation solutions like the LRS, we aim to create a future where both people and wildlife can coexist safely.

To further this mission, we’re launching 100 handcrafted silver Elephant Pendants on March 15, 2025, at www.cjs.lk .

More than just jewellery, each pendant is a symbol of hope—with 100% of proceeds funding LRS to protect both people and elephants.

Wear your support. Be the change.
